We didn't have much time to 'wander' around Pekanbaru during our last visit. Makan time would probably the best 'fun' we can have. The hosting universities had gave us good treats of food. Below are some of the 'interesting' food and beverages I had encountered.
This is a local fish species, the local people named it ikan slais. a small size fish, pretty much look like ikan keli. They either deep fry them or smoke them. This particular one was deep-fried. Very crispy and nice.
And this one is the 'telur ikan patin'. Wrapped with tumeric leaves and cooked with curry-like gravy. I like it. Nice. But I'm sure the cholesterol content would be whopping high too.
Now the REALLY INTERESTING part. The drinks. It's their name that intrigues me. Just take a look at the list below. Menarik tak nama-nama tu??
This is the Air Mata Pengantin (The Bride's Tears) ordered by Cik Bah. Kureng kata Cik Bah, tak habis minum pun.
This is Es Awet Mud. 'Tak tau lah air apa ni" was the comment from Puan A. Tapi ok je dia minum.
Ni pulak Es Laksamana Mengamuk. It's manggo cubes in coconut milk actually. Tak mengamuk pun lepas minum.
Puan A, minum minuman awet muda dia sambil mengelamun.... mungkin tengah berkhayal kot......'lepas minum air ni saya akan jadi muda.... cantik.... menawan.... bestnyer....bestnyer...'
More interesting things coming.... in part 2.
