Firework Display - The Australian Team

The Australian Team, the last team of the Malaysian International Firework Competition, really lived up to their name as the defending champion in last year's competition. The firework display was on 29th August 2008. My wife and I meet up with Mr. Wan and family at our place. The bears, Dr. Shah and Abg Yazeed joined in while Fendi Osman (first time meeting him) chipped in a bit later.

Thanks to Mr. Wan who'd made some research and printed out a Putrajaya map with indications of a few good spots for viewing, we picked a spot beside the lake, opposite to the Wawasan Bridge. It's the 'tempat baru' beside the lake in the map below. Since no one really know how to go to the place, my Navigator came in handy.

The place was really beautiful. The reflections on the lake perfected the choice of fireworks photography.


The bears got their equipments fitted in no time. Some preparation and pre-testing is necessary in night photography.

The firework was performed not far away from the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC), probably a few hundred meters away.



The firework displays various colours, shapes, and sizes.




The finale was jaw dropping. The fireworks were so bright that they look like a massive explosion of fire with various colours.

Akak Marrybrown's Blog

Muara Ikan Bakar @ Tanjung Harapan

Dr. John will be leaving to Cambridge this Friday. And to thank our hospitality and to value our friendship, he decided to give us a treat. We had our dinner at Tanjung Harapan last night, on Abang John's treat of course. It's the Muara Ikan Bakar Restaurant. More pic of this restaurant can be found in this blog.

This restaurant is situated by the seaside. Quite windy and the environment was good. You got to choose your choices of seafood before sending them to the kitchen.

This was my favourite. The deep sea crabs.

Kimie, Kak Lin, my wife and I were having a great time selecting the seafood. We put them into a plastic tray, and the tauke would separate them according to species and weigh them. We chose deep sea crabs, fresh prawns, squids, medium size stingray and siakap. Oh, and an ikan kembung for Ja-cha-cha as she don't take 'big' fish.



The cooking was prompt. The food were served within 10 minutes. We started off with a toast by John, for our friendship.

It's John's first time having deep sea crab. He excelled with Kak Lin's 'strict instructions'.

Miss Wawa was just soooo adorable. She's the star of the night.

The food was just ok. Reverview Restaurant at Kuala Selangor beat this restaurant hands down. Hence, no photo shown. Well, the dinner was memorable. We enjoyed the good chat and our friendship was definitely fostered. John and Kak Lin will be back in Malaysia in November.

Redang Islands Trip

The journey started at 10pm on Thursday night. Seventy people and loads of camping equipments were stuffed into two buses.

Reached Shah Bandar Jetty (Kuala Terengganu) at 7am. We washed up at the public washroom near by before having our breakfast. A briefing on the arrangement of tasks were made.

All the camping equipments were loaded into the ferry smoothly as planned. It's important to organise everything before hand if it involves a large group of people, especially if many of them are first timer. We left the jetty at 8.45am

Tadaaaa......... Reached the Redang Islands Marine Park at 10.30am. We quickly unload the bags and equipments and moved to the camp site situated just behind the marine park's office.

No time to loose, a briefing were made and the camp site was cleared before the tents were pitched.In an hour, the setup was done and was ready for the excitement.


More briefings were done. Students were informed about the dos and don'ts of camping and some common rules at the marine park. Students were then divided into groups where they will have their activities in a group. This was also important to ensure students safety.

Lunch were prepared in group. All were 'forced' to rest before the activities begin in the afternoon.

At 4pm, all were geared for snorkeling. Many of them were first timer so I got to give more briefing, just to ensure their safety.


I did some demonstration on the use of the goggles, some breathing techniques and some satety measures during snorkeling.




It's not easy to take care of 65 energetic and adrenaline filled youngsters. I got to keep watch all the time. Hehehe... macam citer Bay Watch...cuma badan Josh bulat, tak cantik macam hero kat citer tu..(ooopsss)

More activities on the second and third days. We got the chance to visit the turtle conservation sanctuary at Chagar Hutang Beach managed by the Turtle Research and Rehabilitation Group of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (previously KUSTEM). Special thanks to Prof Chan Eng Heng for the arrangment and permission. Will update with more pics when I got time.

Redang Islands.... Here I Come.

I'm excited. It's an annual event where I can share my passion with my students. It's also a time to educate this group of future scientist on the importance of biodiversity and their conservation. We're going to camp at the Pulau Redang Marine Park.

Firework Display

The event: Firework display. By the Canadian Team. Not that impressive actually. I think Malaysia Team did better. hehe.

Looking forward to 29th August when the defending champion Australia Team will be displaying their skills. Hm... DSLR Josh kurang lincah, ni kena beli yang baru nih... tapi bila la agaknye ada duit...??
